Page 1 of How Epic got such amazing Unreal Engine 5 results on next-gen consoles
I wasn't going to post this, 'cos at this stage it's all smoke and mirrors so to speak, but having read the article, and watched the video (sadly I don't have 4k viewing device) it's very pretty and so worth a share.
I think gamesport etc have been showing the video but a mate shared this article:
advantage Sony ;)
cue discussion surrounding every new launch of specs blah blah, better graphics, better sound, better physics, better ai etc don't mean better games blah blah, give me a table top space invaders arcade unit over this any day :)
Not clicked your link yet but watched the video yesterday and not seen anything like that for real time before.
Absolutely amazing detail and effects.
Designing games where you know there's a ridiculously quick SSD to deliver the data will, I'm sure, change many elements of game design (no need to go through certain doors or lifts/elevators... to load a level etc...) but again, it will be a few years before most games will look anything clost to this I feel.
We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..
Well it kept me watching to the end despite most of what they were talking about being gibberish to me.
It does look pretty damn good but the characters face?
Maybe that's not finished and that's not what they're showing off.

What I find with these modern games, is that they make them so realistic that you have to stick to the game path, and cannot go exploring behind that next bend or over the next hill as you hit an invisible wall, a river or some object that stops you. This saves on map memory.
A good example is tomb raider with the first five games which were fantastic, though graphics and movements were not so sophisticated, but you could explore the whole games world map, ie explore hidden and inaccessible areas, as the data needed to make a whole map did not need that much memory. Once they moved on to newer tomb raider games the graphics of the landscape and characters got far better, but sacrificed a full world map, and made you follow the one path or possibly an alternative second path only, as the game world was limited in size due to taking up far too much memory by making it look good.
Not sure if this unreal game engine 5 can generate a massive game world map allowing you to go off the designed path intended by the game maker, and allow you explore the inaccessible areas, and find hidden things? Looking at the above video it seems not. She goes from the bottom to the top and then flies back down. But can she go to the far left or far right to explore, likely not.
I used to be a game buff, but newer games now are more realistic than they need to be, and have plenty realistic gore and horror which puts me right off. That included the newer tomb raider games, where realistic gore was it seems more important than total exploration, which was the original idea of tomb raider.
Just put me down as being too old for these newer video games, and I will stick with sonic the hedgehog 2D
Saw a trailer for Mortal Kombat 11 yesterday (it has Robocop voiced by Peter Weller as one of the playable characters). Now I loved the first game, even bought a copy of the first movie, but watching the trailer, I knew I couldn't post a link on this site as it’s just so gory.
I’d have to be a complete sadist to play that game.
(Maybe I’m old enough to read the Daily Mail now... things were better in my day, harrumph harrumph, kids don’t know how good they’ve got it etc).

I get more enjoyment out of my glass table top console (the ones that used to be in the pubs in the 80's), and it has many classic games that you can select, like asteroids, pong, and pac-man.
I think the problem with RTX and UE5, and all these things, is mostly you don't notice them whilst actually playing a game. :/
What I want, what I really really want, ziga zig aah, is 4k in VR with no honeycombing!
