This is going to be sensational. I was sold on the teaser trailer alone.

Blonde is an upcoming American biographical fiction film written and directed by Andrew Dominik. Adapted from the 2000 novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates, the film is a fictionalized take on the life of actress Marilyn Monroe, played by Ana de Armas. Adrien Brody, Bobby Cannavale, Xavier Samuel, and Julianne Nicholson also appear in supporting roles.

Could potentially be the first NC-17 rated film to be nominated for major awards.

Being too young to be a fan, just culturally aware of her, kind of interested in this (if it's biographical).

she looks like her but I would say at least 2 or 3 sizes smaller, sure Marilyn was size 18

Holy moly, I hope Netflix has a big flashing content advisory warning at the start of this or else some less-informed viewers might be a bit shocked to find that this is not your standard Hollywood bio-pic. The film very much earns its 18 certificate (and an almost unheard-of NC-17 in the US). More info here:

If you can stomach the film's more gruelling parts (as well as the runtime), at its heart you will find an absolutely mesmerising performance by Ana De Armas. She will simply bowl you over. Julianne Nicholson is also incredible as Norma Jeane's monstrous mother.

Performances aside, though, I really couldn't tell you how much I liked the film. I think I will need to process it for a while and possibly watch it a second time to really take it in. I've read a lot of criticism about the film, some of it valid and some of it rather missing the point. Mark Kermode had some interesting thoughts on the film here:

after checking out numerous reviews I have made a conscious decision as a Marilyn fan not to watch this movie
