Mel Gibson stars on both sides of the camera, playing the lead role plus directing and producing this brawling, richly-detailed saga of fierce combat, tender love and the will to risk all that`s precious for something more precious: freedom.
In an emotionally charged performance, Gibson is William Wallace, a bold Scotsman who used the steel of his blade and the fire of his intellect to rally his countrymen to liberation. Filled with sword-clanging spectacle, Braveheart is a tumultuous tapestry of history come alive, "the most sumptuous and involving historical epic since Lawrence Of Arabia" (Rod Lurie, Los Angeles Magazine).

Your Opinions and Comments
It tells the story of William Wallace, a Scotsman of the 13th century and his fight for freedom.
The acting is rather ordinary. Mel Gibson should probably stick with his comedy roles, though.
The video transfer is a disgrace. While most of the scenes are stunning visually (as are the landscapes of Scotland), this rather new movie feels as if it went through a sandstorm while being transferred to DVD. There are numerous dust particles and scratches all through the movie and they are kind of disturbing. There aren`t, however, any compression marks at all.
The DD 5.1 soundtrack is ok. I was hoping for a more aggressive usage of the surrounds, but I guess they ARE used frequently and that`s plausible.
The menus are still and dull.
The extras include a short 20 minute behind the scenes featurette and a nice commentary by Mel Gibson.
Bottom line - the movie is a 3 hour ride (pun intended). Enjoyable at times, slow at times, but all in all it somehow delivers the goods.
and also one of my favourite movies holding the
12th place on my top 20 movies list.Mel Gibson works as an
actor, on the director`s chair + producing, so I would say
that it`s Mel who really brought this movie to life.
The story gathers around the man called William Wallace, who
decides to revenge his wife`s death and start a war against
England to fight for the freedom of Scotland.Braveheart
is a very brutal historical epic movie with rage, emotional & love elements
and with Mel`s good directing & effort the result is just unbelievable.
So, the Braveheart finally got it`s transfer to dvd and I had to buy it as
quick as possible. The video quality is very sharp with good colors and
comparing to vhs, dvd looked much richer. The audio ain`t as good as it was
in the Patriot, but still quite nice and clear, just some battle scenes didn`t
have the effect that i was hoping for.Menus are silent, but with cool backround
pics they managed.Extra Features doesn`t include so very much, but
still there`s a trailer, good making of documentary and Mel`s audio commentary.
With all things together this is a worth for buying, specially if you love this movie.
